Race day is the culmination of weeks of hard work, creativity, and anticipation for Pinewood Derby racers. It’s the day when all the effort and energy invested in building the perfect car finally pays off.
The races are divided into heats by each den, allowing each car to compete against their fellow scouts in the same den. After the initial heats, and awards are handed out to the den winners, the two fastest cars from each heat advance to the finals. The winner takes home the grand prize trophy, and we have had winners from the oldest AOL scouts all the way down to Lions! It’s truly anyone’s game.
There is also a race dedicated to siblings who aren’t in scouts and even one for adults who want to build their own race cars. Don’t forget to bring money to buy something from our fundraising snack bar! From pastries to pizza, we will keep our stomachs full. All proceeds go to the Blue & Gold bridging ceremony for graduating scouts.
Ultimately, the Pinewood Derby is about more than just winning. It’s about learning new skills, developing problem-solving abilities, and fostering a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. It’s a chance for kids to express their creativity and have fun with their families and friends.
